Small but mighty, just like the AirBell bell from Katana: AirTag from Apple™ is a smart little tracking chip to attach to objects that are particularly important or valuable to you - such as keychain, wallet, for example. Or your bike, of course! If the item has been misplaced or otherwise lost, the corresponding AirTag can be located in the "Where is it?" iOS app on iPhone or iPad. This is technically realized via Bluetooth or ultra-wideband (UWB). At close range, the search is performed directly from your mobile device. If the AirTag is out of UWB range, it is searched via the "Where is?" network within the iCloud, i.e. with the help of potentially millions of other iOS devices worldwide. According to Apple, this process is supposed to be completely anonymous, encrypted and privacy-compliant.
